Through my work with the Moston Small Cinema project, I have gotten to know a fair few of the folks in Moston and Harpurhey. They are currently developing the first ever North Manchester Film Festival, in response to the unfair portrayal they received at the hands of the BBC, in order to celebrate the real creativity within their communities. The HAND MADE FILM FESTIVAL will take place from 10-12th October in venues across the North, including of course the Moston Small Cinema.
I’ve been helping the folks behind the festival with some support in getting going, thinking about how to structure the programme, and to balance big ideas with the practicality of managing spaces and resources. I’ve also developed the logo for the festival, and the initial website, which is acting well as a site for submissions. I’m really pleased with the logo itself, building upon some initial ideas from the committee, and incorporating this idea of manufacturing heritage and craftsmanship, and a ‘seal of approval’. What’s even better is to see how it is now being used by the marketing team, who have developed a broader branding style around it, using the tropes of cinema, and created some lovely print outcomes below.
